Announcing ‘Nation Pack: The Netherlands’ for Wargame: Red Dragon!

Wargame: Red Dragon is about to celebrate its second birthday and we are committed to keeping it alive for some more …

Since the early days of the Wargame saga, forums as well our private message boxes have been filled with petitions, complaints even, about “missing” nations. Based on so many community requests, we have decided to give “Nation Pack(s)” a try.

NL_Commander

For the first Nation Pack, we have selected the lucky winner: the Netherlands. The reason being that this nation is powerful enough to stand on its own among the “medium” nations, and fields both indigenous vehicles and an original combination of American, German & French equipments.

Yet, unlike the previous DLCs, Nation Pack would be paid one, although players without it would be able to play against (or allied with) players owning it, in order not to split the community. So far, we have been delivering three major DLCs as well as three Map Packs since the game’s release, all of them free. Such Nation Pack would give us the means to finance ongoing support to the Red Dragon and make sure that further balance patches and content will keep coming.

Announcing ‘Nation Pack: The Netherlands’ for Wargame: Red Dragon!

And should the Nation Pack concept be validated, it will pave the way for more nations, which we will let the community chose. Who knows, maybe Finland might show up in Wargame one day? 😉

Really happy to hear about Nation Packs, I’ve been wishing for this since RD first came out.

Just a reminder that enough research will produce viable decks for almost any minor NATO or Pact nation; http://forums.eugensystems.com/viewtopic.php?f=101&t=43440

I think we need a taiwan too.

Maybe, when we make taiwan as Nation Pack, china can only block that Nation Pack, but not the whole game of Red dragon. Isn’t it a good idea?

… Neither have most countries ingame right now, what’s your point? NL has been extremely game relevant since EE, it was a major NATO contributor during the Cold War and is still a serious Coalition partner today. Perfectly logical choice, much better than South Africa or Turkey.

Really glad that RD keeps expanding and a good idea with the paid dlc to make more content possible. You handled it perfectly with how DLC owners and non owners can still play with each other. Just hoping this wont delay Wargame 4. After reducing the amount of RD played I dunno if these packs really are interesting to me . Well lets wait for the complete unit list, if it has an indigenous feel to it then hey sure why not. If its just a boring Germany reskin thou then not. In any case looking forward to it.

Would be great to have a non aligned INDFOR faction.

    Could include:
    India
    Brazil
    Sri Lanka
    Yugoslavia
    Etc.

Even Iran and Iraq could be added, although I suppose they were technically BLUFOR during the Cold War

    • Skjold

I agree, non-aligned factions opens up many more options and you could make them playable on either side of the conflict.

Spain is the second largest country in Europe, a little respect. He is a member of NATO, would have q be in the game from the beginning, big mistake. Material made available with as many kinds Italy, BMR, BEC, CENTAURO, PIZARRO.Que Spain and Italy are not in this game is an insult to Europeans.

But you will not convince me nor I you, jajajjaj, but thank q answers and say you have a great game, for me the best of the moment and much encouragement to continue to improve. thanks for the free dlc is something q the comunidada appreciated.

Maybe the southern front can make the scenario for a future wargame… a lot of mixture and possibilities in that area… or maybe something with the balkans during the break-up of yougoslavia, war in transnistria, war in georgia…

  • Maiser
    May 18, 2016 at 4:28 pm

Did you consider on adding a long term campaign map instead of adding new factions? I mean, i can not be the only one who see all the potential a “total war” like campaign would have in this game. The mechanics are there, each turn you get some points (for each territory) and you could just go conquer the world. The only thing it should be changed would be introducing a new map, remove the “turn limit” and perhaps introduce some simple diplomacy system based on relationship (previous battles, war with allies and military power). Some people would say “there is total war, for that”, but total war has no modern war games. I think this would be the only modern war game which would allow a strategic map+battleing, and all this with such little changes.

As yours fan form europien escalation i would be happy on single palyer campain dlc like 2 war korea, but more turns conflict like not 22 but 30 – 40 and in times like 1992 – 1995 meabe yugosława and in this history line nato vs former warsaw pact (eastern block) plus advance units from 1995 (raptor and otjer tank stuff) sorry for my english. Grettings. I will pay for single player mission campain not much but something like max 10 – 15$

A large reason they are not including recent crisis or units in the game is that they don´t want to piss anyone off. I think that is why they stick on speculative scenarios.

    Good news !

    Some suggestions :

egypt (one of the most mixed equipement army, could be fun to have soviet/american/french equipements in one single deck) could be in redfor before 1980 and bluefor after, crazy no ?)
israel (of course, mixed us/french/local equipements)
iran (of course twice, deprecated us equipement and local)
turkey (turkey=>nato shield in mideast, us/local equipements)
    irak (again, mixed assets),
syria (very soviet equiped for sure but …syria)
“generic african militia” (mixed light equipements from all over the world and they have pickups 🙂 – but very bad airforces for sure) could be present in bluefor and redfor
“generic mid east militia” (lebanon conflict) same as “generic african militia” but with different equipements
    yougoslavia
    india,
    pakistan,
    south africa,
    angola,
    cuba,
    belgium,
    greece (again very mixed assets)

think spain is out of scope, and italy too, italy is first an air/naval actor in nato organization, not a ground force.

that’s all, let wargame live forever

  • Carolus
    May 19, 2016 at 1:43 am

I’ll probably buy this because I love the game so much.

My two cents though: Should have done Syria/Egypt/Israel or India/Pakistan instead. Seriously, who wakes up in the morning yearning to play Netherlands?

Potential of factions above is amazing because all those factions where in fact at war during the timeline. Israel and Pakistan are blue (if that’s bothering you think again on post-1956 Sino-Soviet relations).

Yugoslavs? Why? Even crazier to have them as REDFOR.

Just wade into the murkiest geopolitical waters, Eugen. You’ll find them quite warm. Also alot of people would buy the game for those feature only. I know I would

Hey guys, if you add any other Commonwealth nations (I.E India) would you add them to the existing commonwealth coalition force?

(also, would you consider having it so you get more units in a coalition, doesn’t make much sense to have less units in a single army force then a coalition of armies)

  • Mathieu Carrier
    May 19, 2016 at 3:15 am

thats what i want in the game!!

    for me we should add:

    Italy
    Turkey
    Yougoslavia
    Pakistan
    India

because thats some very powerfull nation and they got some home made stuff!

  • ZenTeapot
    May 19, 2016 at 4:30 am

Its good news that WGRD is expanding. I will definitely buy the national decks but the existing national decks still have a lot of room for tweaks and new nations, for example the Chinese deck may need some more variety. And definitely some more REDFUR decks please!

  • Bismuth
    May 19, 2016 at 6:39 am

I understand the desire to continue to make more (paid) content for Red Dragon players… However, wouldn’t it be more revitalizing for the Wargame community and Eugen to make another wargame-esque game? It doesn’t even have to be a modern military strategy game, it could be set in WWII. I’m sure the community would love (and buy) something like that.

  • Andrew

  • Lorcis
    May 20, 2016 at 5:42 am

we don’t need wargame four, this one is only one year old and there is so much to expand upon, the navy could be repaired, improved.
would love a permanent global map, all battles could make a difference on that map, what fun that would be, how addictive that would be.
Would a community map editor be too much to ask for ?
This is my favorite game and i will keep paying for quality content.
    Thank’s Eugen.

But i never understand that blue navy battle most time will be outrocket/outgunned to rusian ship because of there beter distance rockets? Or there better armor. 90% of wars take place in the middle east, bow come there are no middle eastern armies, and a middle easter. Mods or maps would be amazing, and the diversty of weapons deployed or operated in the middle east are huge, take egypt as an example, they havr soviet, ameican and french weapons, it would be an amazing add, and would sta d in a category of ot own, not mention “israel” which has indisious tanks and other weapons, a d finally syria and iraq with a large fleet of tanks in the late 80’s and 90’s, so it would be great to see three fanctions in wargame, pact, nato, and middle east

    Perfect >:D Another nation.
Now what about any of the other european countries… Belgium? Italy? Spain? Austria? Greece? Especially Portugal? This might sound stupid or crazy, but Portugal would make a lot of sense in Red Dragon… If you’re gonna say no, then UK doesn’t make sense either. If you don’t know what I’m talking about check on a map, what’s right next to Hong Kong?
As for equipment it has a huge diversity, it would be something weak similar to Denmark’s power, but with a lot more vehicles to choose from, some not even in the game.

    -One of the founding nations of NATO;
    -Had a planned OrBat for Central Europe;
    -Had a planned OrBat for the Italian region;
    -Had some tensions with China, even a small skirmish on the border (check the map if you don’t know where);
-A variety of vehicles, more than some of the nations currently in the game, half of those vehicles not in game either.

I play wargame mostly because of the unrivaled selection of units and the great way they behave. (Other games with a good selection of units often have ridiculous (in a bad way) mechanics).

So I think it would make sense to include Israel in the next nation pack with special units such as: Merkva tank (1978-intro/1982-first major deployment[wiki]),
IAI Lavi prototype fighter jet (1986- program was developed further than Canada´s Chimaera tank)
IAI Nesher (a iraeli version of Dassult mirage 5)
recon uav´s developed in the 70´s would also be a great addiction.

S-300 (1978) would also be really cool

  • Italian Player
    June 22, 2016 at 5:35 pm

I think that Italy is a good choice, it is an important country member of NATO and stood on the border with the communist bloc, in fact, has many national military bases and even NATO and the US.
Italy has a good Army with American elements and Germans but also original and own manufacture.
As follows, but only following, development would not hurt Yugoslavia and then Israel and Egypt.
An expansion that I think might be interesting is an upgrade that includes for the various countries, the most modern means until the year 2000 or 2016 including latest generation prototypes.

Please add more campaigns, like war scenarios from the Middle East. Perhaps the Arab Israeli War both of them. And please the Falklands War from the Argentinian Perspective, that would be one of the most challenging campaigns in the game if you guys make it
