Introducing new units for Wargame Red Dragon: WAR LEADERS

War is merely the continuation of policy by other means

– Karl von Clausewitz, On War.

Eugen Systems is proud to announce the upcoming release of a new feature for Wargame: Red Dragon, one which should bring the game to a whole new level of war: political leaders at war.

They may not go into combat, not do they plan military operations, but who would deny the decisive role of a Winston Churchill in Britain’s destiny during WW2? Had the war been raging in Europe in the mid-80’s, that is Wargame‘s timeframe, political leaders would have had to turn into war leaders. Would have they been up to the task? That’s what we are trying to apprehend with War Leaders, a new free content for Wargame.

To that effect, each nation represented in Wargame: Red Dragon will be granted a new “unit card” representing an emblematic political leader of the mid-80’s & restricted to national decks only. Although those “war leaders” cards will take up one slot within your deck, you won’t be able to deploy them on the field as unit (but for one of them). What’s the point of using up a precious unit slot with them, then?

Each national War Leader will be granted a special ability, which will buff either all or part of your deck’s troops, or even hamper some enemy troops for a limited time.

 Here are a few examples:

NATO (& allies):

Ronald Reagan (USA):

Reagan2

Special ability: Cowboy movie star

President Ronald Reagan will give a 100% moral buff to all American units but Apaches, Chinooks, Kiowas & Blackhawks.

WARSAW PACT (& allies):

Mikhaïl Gorbatchiov (USSR):

Gorby

Special ability: Gospriyomka policy

Gorby‘ will make sure that each and every piece of military hardware used by the defenders of Socialism is of proper quality. Therefore, Soviet troops shall not suffer critical hits.

Margaret Thatcher (UK):

Thatcher3

Special ability: Iron Lady

As befitting her nickname, Prime Minister Thatcher will grant a 25% armor bonus to all vehicles in the Tank category.

Wojciech Jaruzelski (Poland):

Jaruzelski

Special ability:  Martial Law

General Jaruzelski can decree martial law on the whole map, freezing the income for all players (but himself) for a limited time.

François Mitterrand (France):

Mitt2

Special ability: Spooks

Tonton‘ will take advantage of his ‘Farewell‘ mole among the high ranks of the KGB to reveal spies. Therefore, for a limited time, all Pact special forces on the map shall be revealed to him.

Deng Xiaoping (China):

Deng

Special ability: Opening up

The ‘Paramount Leader‘ will open up China to Western market. Therefore, up to 3 “blue” units will be allowed in the deck.

Helmut Kohl (West-Germany):

Kohl

Special ability: Economic Power

Chancellor Kohl will make good use of his country’s wealth to convert, for a limited time, his income from Dollars into Deutsch Marks. Meaning the West German player will earn 3.0892 DM for each 1 $ the other players will get.

Kim Il-Sung (North Korea):

Kim2

Special ability: Kirin

The ‘Eternal President‘ will be the only war leader able to be deployed ingame. Indeed being, unlike other feeble leaders, as proficient in close combat than nuclear engineering, he will lead his troops into combat himself from his personal T-90 command tankKirin‘. Yet, if included in a deck, no other command unit can be selected alongside him …

And that’s just a few of them …

Each and every nation will have its leader and special ability, being Olof Palme (Sweden)’s Total Neutrality, Yasushiro Nakasone (Japan)’s Unsinkable Aircraft CarrierGustáv Husák (CSSR)’s Normalization, Erik Honecker (East Germany)’s Socialist Orthodoxy, …

EDIT: All of the above was, of course, an April Fool.  😉

I love this, briliant idea. If I choose Ronald Regan can he buy Carl Gustav for Delta Force? Or is that even much for him? 😀

Wonderful! A both funny, and game tweaking edition I suspect. Will it come as a DLC or update?

Big thanks for one of my most played and loved game so far. 🙂
